January 28, 2017
Check In at 9:00am
Challenge from 10:00am to 12:00pm
Due to the increased number of interested teams, we have decided to postpone our fundraiser until January 28, 2017.
Explore the cultural gems of Hi Fi (Historic Filipinotown) – Team Scavenger Hunt style. Meet Filipino-specific challenges (from a Balut eating contest to dancing Tinikling to the beat of Bebot by the Black Eyed Peas!). Have fun, Discover Historic Filipinotown and Support Pilipino Workers Center and Filipino American Service Groups, Inc while doing it!
Want to have a fun, cultural adventure in Historic Filipinotown (A.K.A. Hi Fi) where you get to use your brain and your senses to uncover history, cultural values and hidden information? Want to not only learn more about Filipino Culture, but also contribute to building the community’s power and voice? Well then we have the event for you! Join PWC x FASGI’s annual fundraiser, Hidden Hi Fi – A Cultural Scavenger Hunt and Challenge! Form a Team and join the Hunt where you will use your skills to solve clues, find hidden treasures and take cultural challenges. You may find yourself meeting a little-known community hero, tasting a Filipino food challenge or receiving your very own Filipino nickname!
You will be having a blast while building your bayanihan spirit (spirit of collective volunteerism to help others) by asking your friends and family and even your Facebook fans to donate money to sponsor you and your Team to take this challenge. We will provide you with materials and online tools to make the process fun and easy. Your Team will have its very own Hidden HiFi web-page. You and your team choose your fundraising goal! This is a real community-building event!
Hidden Hi-Fi is a 2 hour challenge from 10am – 12pm and you and your team will have a chance to explore Historic Filipinotown while also completing many different cultural Filipino challenges. It will also test your ability to strategize. Challenges range from food and language to traditional dance challenges. In addition to the challenges, your team will be given clues that will take you all around Historic Filipinotown, you’ll see places you didn’t know existed. You will get to visit different historical sites in the neighborhood as well as get a chance to catch a ride in an authentic Sarao Jeepney from the Philippines. You can solve your clues in any order you wish. Most teams probably will not solve all of the clues within the time limit. It’ll be up to you to strategize how best to use your time – and each other – to correctly solve as many clues and challenges as possible.
Big thank you to Public Matters and PDUB Productions for their Hidden Hi Fi series!
Please register by Wednesday, January 25, 2017.
Teams are made up of at least 2 and up to 4 people. Give yourself a Team name (example: “Hi Fi History-makers”). Each team must assign 1 captain. That person must be comfortable working with the judges and will receive all email communications leading up to the event. All ages are welcomed! We just ask that if you have children on your team that the adult be your team captain. Everyone on your team will get their very own Hidden Hi Fi tshirt! Teams participating on behalf of an organization will have the chance to have their organization’s logo displayed on the back of their team t-shirts.
